Over the Rainbow with Jeannie TannerFeaturing the Music of Harold Arlen https://youtu.be/6wvy-pIU0lQ
“Over the Rainbow with Harold Arlen” is a show that features many of Arlen’s unforgettable melodies including “I’ve Got the World on a String,” “One for My Baby” (arr by Dianne Reeves) and “Over the Rainbow.”
Along with Ms. Tanner performing some of Mr. Arlen’s best known works, she will again be performing original material she wrote just for this show. “I’m reminded of what we call standards,” explained Jason Marck of NPR in describing Tanner’s writing style. “That’s not just Tin Pan Alley with your Gershwins, Porter, your Rodgers and Hart; I also hear Brill Building influences like Mann & Weil, King & Goffin and Bacharach & David…”
The audience can expect Tanner’s original pieces to pay tribute to Arlen’s composition techniques and commitment to memorable melodies. Her love for his songs comes not only from being a vocalist and appreciating his wonderful standards of the Great American Songbook, but also as a songwriter, reaching back over the decades to infuse his writing style with a few of her own tunes.
