Ticket Link/Venue Info:

Twelve of Chicago’s finest vocalists gather for one night to debut a new album of original music written by singer-songwriter, composer and trumpeter, Jeannie Tanner. These talented vocalists recorded Tanner’s songs for her new release, “Words and Music,” and will perform them during this evening of spectacular entertainment. Never before has this renowned group of artists been brought together for one concert:

*Alyssa Allgood *Rose Colella *Elaine Dame *Kimberly Gordon *Paul Marinaro
*Tammy McCann *Jeff Meegan *Typhanie Monique *Andy Pratt *Abigail Riccards
*Michele Thomas *Amy Yassinger

With just one performance, this will be an extraordinary evening of music, and a grand showcase of Tanner’s breadth and talent as a songwriter and musician. “Jeannie Tanner is a triple-threat Chicago singer-trumpeter-composer, who probably couldn’t play or write an unmusical phrase if she wanted to.” Howard Reich, CHICAGO TRIBUNE. Tanner’s mastery as a composer lies in her ability to fuse the spontaneity of old school jazz with memorable lyrics and musical hooks that send audiences home humming her tunes.

Stylistically, the tunes on “Words & Music” embrace the spectrum of American and Latin-based music from the Great American Songbook to Red Light New Orleans-style Jazz; bossa nova and retro 1960s Rat Pack Swing to percussive funk; rousing gospel and soulful ballads; to shades of adult contemporary pop. Like this eclectic mix of music, the featured vocalists bring their depth of versatility and musicianship to interpreting and capturing these songs in their own unique styles.

“Words & Music” is Tanner’s ninth album, but her first songbook collection. “All of my previous albums featured me as the vocalist. As a composer, it has always been my dream to have other singers record my songs,” says Tanner. More than two years in development, some of the artists are singing new songs that Tanner wrote specifically for their voices, just for this project. They are also singing material from her expansive catalogue, with fresh new arrangements. Tanner continues, “There are so many gifted singers in Chicago, but these vocalists were chosen for this album because their voices lend the right textures and timbres for the songs that I wanted to record.”

“Words & Music” was a total collaboration with the singers, as they helped work out their own arrangements with Tanner, and her co-producer and music director/arranger Dan Murphy. The album was recorded by Matt Feddermann, who also helped produce the tracks.

Dan Murphy played piano on the album with Cory Biggerstaff (bass), Darren Scorza (drums), Neal Alger (guitar), Andy Pratt (guitar on his track), Chris Madsen (saxophone), Elaine Dame (flute), Adam Thornburg (trombone), the HAWK String Quartet led by Katherine Hughes and Tanner, who played trumpet on a few of the tunes. These musicians will also be accompanying “the fab 12” for this concert.

“My compositions are only notes on a staff and words on a page,” says Tanner. “It is truly each performer’s heart, soul and talent that bring my work to life. I wanted these performers to make my songs their own – and they did!”

After the performance, we invite you to meet the musicians. And, for the first time, the new album, “Words & Music” will be available for autographs and purchase.
